Tallahassee is a true melting pot of diverse cultures. An on-going initiative of The Institute is called The World that Lives Here (TWTLH). Each month a specific country, continent, and/or cultural theme is highlighted. TWTLH is a community-wide network of native Tallahasseans and several cultural organizations that share their crafts, music, arts and heritage.
The World that Lives Here:
- Offers strategies for effective intercultural communication.
- Provides participants with useful and practical tools to be more aware of the history present in Tallahassee.
- Enables people who have immigrated to Tallahassee to have a sense of place, respect, and enthusiasm and to feel welcome and received.
- Creates an enticing educational and tourism marketing tool to promote Tallahassee and Leon County as a contributor to global connections.
- Provides practical information on how to appreciate and better understand various world cultures (especially those represented in Tallahassee).
- Provides opportunities for participants to engage in cross-cultural exercises and activities.
- Provides information regarding opportunities to build networks in Tallahassee's intercultural community.
- Provides motivational programs that give insight and training to individuals, particularly our youth, about leadership, civic responsibility, and the humanities.
- Provides an outreach to young people in order to build individual success and community pride.
- Opens its doors to young people in preparation of careers and the “outside world.”
- Implements history and heritage programs that edify and empower a source of transformation into schools, homes, and the individual.
Celebrating those who have immigrated to Tallahassee, those who are newcomers, and those who are native to the area, TWTLH is a resource center for Tallahassee’s rich history and culture.
